Pink Spider
Logo design, site design and build
Background
Pink Spider is a copywriting service in Chippenham, they wanted a new website and a replacement logo as their current identity didn't accurately express the personality of the company.
Logo
We looked at various different spider shapes and types with themes like 'secret agent' and even a spider made from lines of text - which looked great but was just too fiddly. We ultimately decided that a small friendly scribbly looking spider could back up a slick logotype. If you look carefully you can see that the strand of web is made up from words.
Web Design
We started off with some ideas about using lines of text as webs and ink splats as metaphors for writing, but in the end we just made things clear and simple. Working with the client we got the right balance between funky and corporate - funky enough to emphasise their creativity, but corporate enough to demostrate trust and solidity.
Programming
Once the site had a clear template design we set about turning that into html. We build all our sites using css layouts and semantic markup which makes it easier for screen readers used by the visually impaired to understand - and also for Google and other search engines to comprehend. We added an animated spider made in flash which swoops into the page as it opens. We also made a series of interchangeable sidebar modules which can be attached to any of the pages.
Content Management System
Pink Spider can upload articles into the system. The latest article is automatically listed on the home page and other articles are archived.
